Our Day At Play

We have been busy during ACTIVE play today!

We worked together and built a hut around some of our playground equipment.

We have been practising our building skills at the wood work table.

Some of us have been practising the play from our reading book. Then we performed to an audience!

We love sliding down the hill on the seats!

Silly Sentences

We have been learning about writing sentences that make sense.

We have been playing the silly sentences game to help us make sentences with lots of interesting words.

We have been trying our best to read the sentences we are making.

Wood Work Table

This week lots of people have been busy creating at the wood work table.

They have had to show a lot of determination, especially when using the saw.

They have been helping each other.

It's been fun learning what all the tools do.

Look at all the communities we belong to...

This week we have been exploring what a community is. We brainstormed all the communities we belonged to.

As part of Seaweek we wrote about all the things we could do to help keep the sea and sea creatures protected.

Seaweek fun

Making imaginary sea creatures

Drawing a mural of all the sea creatures we know

Using rocks from Birdlings Flat to share messages for how to look after the sea.

Problem Solving Maths

This week we begun our maths problem-solving sessions. Each week the children will spend two sessions working with a buddy to solve a problem. The other two sessions will be spent developing their number knowledge.

First we spent time talking about how we work with a buddy. The things we decided were really important were:
  • Respect our buddies and be nice
  • Active listening by looking at our buddy and thinking about what is being said
  • Take turns
  • Help each other to learn by sharing ideas
  • Ask questions if we don't understand
  • Be drivers of our own learning

At the end of each session we spend time sharing how we solved the problem.

It's great being able to learn how other people solve problems. 😃
