Ti Kouka's Arty Tuesday

This morning we spent two blocks working on our art projects.

Today we could pick from CD weaving, making dream-catchers, making insects and animals out of pipe-cleaners and pom-poms, making flowers out of bottle tops and painting our paper-mache and milk bottles.

We were all super busy. It was lovely to hear children giving compliments to each other on what they were making. We also saw lots of children showing great determination.

Thank you to the Mums who came in to lend a hand!!!!!

Getting ready for our Art Show - Planning

In Tikouka we have been looking at the artwork by Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

Hundertwasser was very creative and liked connecting people with nature. He believed everybody should live like kings in fairytale houses. He used lots of bright colours and interesting shapes. The children liked how Hundertwasser used his artwork to try and make people happy and smile. If you have ever been to the public toilets in Kawakawa you will know what they mean.

We are using Hundertwasser's artwork to come up with our own ideas for how to make our outdoor play area a more fun place to be.  The children came up with a lot of greats and sent a big letter to Mr Naysmith to see which ones we could do.

Unfortunately, we didn't have enough money for the flying fox or swimming pool but we have lots of other creative artworks that we are allowed to do.

This week we started the process of making some of them.

Kapa Haka

Each term Ti Kouka have 3 sessions of Kapa Haka taken by Matua Steve. It is a chance for the children to get a taste of what joining the Kapa Haka group is like and to learn new waiata. Last week we also got to explore using poi. It was great to see so many children persevering with different moves and following instructions.

Ti Kouka are Artists

On Thursday 29th November we are having our Run, Jump, Throw and Art Show day.  Today we started some of our art projects we are going to be sharing with you.

Some Ti Kouka children started doing some CD weaving with Mrs O'Callaghan and Catherine. There were lots of determined children and it was great how no one gave up.

We also had some children painting the bottles you brought in.

It was a bit funny only painting them white. Next week we will add some more colours.

We are going to be doing lots of exciting projects over the next few weeks. We can't wait to share them with you!
