Working Together to Grow Our Maths Brains!

During maths today the studio was buzzing as we learned all about measurement. We had to measure lots of things and figure out which is longer and shorter and the difference between them.

Like wonderful mathematicians we chose to record our findings on book creator. We took photos and used the pen tool to write the numbers.

We also had to practise our communication skills by listening and talking to our buddy.
We practised :

I agree because... I disagree because...

We used different measuring tools like cubes, rods and sticks to measure the items.

Lego Creations

On Thursday during ACTIVE play our boys were very busy at the lego table.

They practised kindness by sharing their creations with their friends and making sure that everyone had enough pieces to make a cool creation.

The boys were wonderful thinkers during this activity!

Measuring Dinosaurs

One of our maths problem this week was to compare the length of dinosaurs.

We were given a sheet that had 7 different dinosaurs and how long they were.  We got to pick two different dinosaurs to compare.

Owen Won a Book for Having a Rubbish Free Lunchbox

Pentomino Fun

This week we got some new pentominoes.

A pentomino is a shape made by joining five squares together side-to-side.

You have to try and fill the whole tray/placemat without having any gaps. This has been pretty trick. We have found working with a buddy can help you.

Sometimes you have to take some pieces away and start again.

You definitely have to be determined to get finished!

The Power of Kindness

We are focusing on the power of kindness. We watched this clip and then made posters with our big buddies to encourage people to be kind at school.

It's a compsognathus!!!!

All week we have been trying to work out what type of dinosaur the fossil was by looking for clues.

We predicted it ate meat because of its sharp teeth and claws. We also noticed it had bones in its stomach from a lizard.

We knew it was an adult and we measured that it was only 1 metre long. We decided it is a very small dinosaur.

We also decided it was probably fast because it was small and had skinny legs. Osten thought its tail would help it to balance.

When we were looking at a YouTube clip about the size of different dinosaurs we discovered a dinosaur that was 1 metre long and wondered if that was our mystery fossil.

We were right! - It's a compsognathus!!!!

Some of the facts in the video below are not right now but we learned that scientists change what they think about dinosaurs based on the evidence they find.
