As part of Seaweek we wrote about all the things we could do to help keep the sea and sea creatures protected.
Welcome to our studio blog. We are 60 Year 1 and 2 ACTIVE Halswell kids who are excited about sharing our learning. We hope you enjoy our posts and we would love you to leave a comment.

Problem Solving Maths
This week we begun our maths problem-solving sessions. Each week the children will spend two sessions working with a buddy to solve a problem. The other two sessions will be spent developing their number knowledge.
At the end of each session we spend time sharing how we solved the problem.
It's great being able to learn how other people solve problems. 😃
First we spent time talking about how we work with a buddy. The things we decided were really important were:
- Respect our buddies and be nice
- Active listening by looking at our buddy and thinking about what is being said
- Take turns
- Help each other to learn by sharing ideas
- Ask questions if we don't understand
- Be drivers of our own learning
At the end of each session we spend time sharing how we solved the problem.

Today Georgia received a prize from the Environmental Group for having a Rubbish Free Lunchbox.
Great work Georgia!!!
We Filled Our Tidy Kiwi Bucket
Today we filled up our Tidy Kiwi Bucket.
Each time we tidy up we challenge ourselves to make the studio tidy by the time two songs finish. This means we have to work together as a team to get it done.
As our reward we got to go outside and play a big game of Dead Ants.
The anteaters were very fast and managed to tag lots of people. The other ants worked together to revive the tagged ants.

Seaweek 2018
This week in Ti kouka we are celebrating New Zealand's annual seaweek.
Seaweek focuses on learning from the sea. It’s about exciting and inspiring all New Zealanders to renew their connections with the sea! Not just for children or those involved with formal education – it’s a time for all of us to get to know our ocean, its habitats, characteristics and inhabitants better.
Here is a link to all the events that are happening around Christchurch.
Shared afternoon tea
Thank you to all the parents and whanau who were able to make it to our shared aftenoon tea. We enjoyed singing our Hello song to you and we especially loved all the yummy kai!
Buddies
Each week after whole school assembly we meet up with our buddies and do some fun activities.
T15 and T31 made monsters that we can use as bookmarks.
T14 made up a game to play with their buddy.

YET
In Ti Kouka this week we have had a lot of fun learning about the power of yet and watching the Mojo videos on youtube.
After watching the Mojo video we created a list of things that we can't do... YET!
Then we each chose one idea and used vivid and dye to make beautiful and bright pictures.
We decided to make a YET wall to share our new learning and remind us that it's okay to not know how to do something... YET!
